Argentina is home to around 1000 bird species across many different habitats. Of these some 14 are endemic and a further 33 near endemic with many more species that are best seen in Argentina, from the rhea and the penguins in the south to the toucan and hummingbirds of the north.

There are some excellent birding areas in or near to the capital Buenos Aires like the Costanera Sur Nature Reserve, to find the main birding activity one has to travel some distance, whether to the cloud forests of the Andes foothills, the jungle of the tropical north, or the wild coast and tundra of the south.
